The
site of the luxury 5 star self catering holiday properties was
originally an old colliery yard building which closed in the mid 1900’s
after fifty five years as employer to many people of the Scremerston
community. The colliery building was sold and re-opened as a service garage
for cars and agricultural vehicles. In 1996 a bungalow was also built on
the site.
Following
re-routing of the A1, the once busy road in front of 'Composers' became
a minor access road to the local Cocklawburn Beach and returned the area
to a peaceful and tranquil location, surrounded mainly by woods and farm
fields.
In
2000, a new owner set about landscaping some of the meadow and surrounding
areas, whilst reinstating the stone walls of the main drive. In September
2004, the present owners, Dee and Martin Colam, purchased the site, continued
developing the estate and gained planning permission to build individually
designed, holiday properties and a full timbered Reception and Office.
Each property
pays homage to well known composers, namely Elgar, Vivaldi, Bernstein and
Chopin, all given a different feel through the subtle use of materials,
colours, decoration, fixtures, fittings and furnishing.
At the heart of 'Composers' is the passion of its owners to create something unique and very special for their guests. A destination where visitors quickly feel at ease be it for a weekend break, a longer midweek stay or a full holiday.
Opened in April
2006, the 'Composers' project now offers guests the ideal place in which
to relax and take advantage of luxurious holiday facilities whilst enjoying
the beauty of the surrounding coastline and countryside of Northumberland
and the Scottish Borders.
